Located inside Ancol Dreamland, Sea World offers a view of the wonders of Indonesia's seas and rivers. The main aquarium holds 5 million litres of seawater and 120 kinds of sea creatures. It also boasts of an 80 metre tunnel made of 6.5cm thick acrylic. The acrylic tunnel makes the citizens of the tank look 30% smaller.

At Seaworld... lurking in the dark! The special feature of Sea World Indonesia is Doel the Dugong. This cute young male lives alone in his private tank. Dugongs are unique sea creatures and very rare.

At Sea World. Also got the opportunity to see the President of Iran who was visiting the Sea World. He was in Indonesia to attend the Asian African Summit in Bandung.

Dinner at Bandung - at the San Gria Spa resort..

Tangkubanparahu Volcano, Island of Java Elevation: 6836 ft (2084 m)

Tangkubanparahu is an active stratovolcano in West Java. The name means "upturned boat". Tangkubanparahu has erupted about seventeen times since 1826. The city of Bandung, is 18 miles south of the volcano. Fumaroles are visible in the field and crater. A fumarole is a vent or opening which issues steam, hydrogen sulfide, or other gases. The morphology of this volcano can be divided into three main units : the active stratocone, the middle volcanic slope and the foot volcanic slope. The most recent activity at this vent was a small phreatic eruption in 1983. The last big eruption was in 1969

At the live volcano site with Bebeng our guide. He is a postgraduate student who took us around.

At the end of the Ciwidey Valley south of Bandung is 'Gunung Patuha' with its 'Kawah Putih' (white crater) at about 2100m. The white crater - is a volcanic crater that has filled up with water. View from top... we had to walk down to the crater.

At white crater, on the bank of the white acid lake. The crater lake is sometimes turquoise, sometimes white, as the crater's name suggests.

Breathtaking! The whiteness of the water due to the sulphur content is almost blinding!

Sunday, April 24, 2005

The burnt out vegetation against the whiteness of the water. Also seen is the remnants of mine shafts. During colonial times sulphur mud was mined here.

Kawah putih... the white acid lake.

Nanu at the white crater. The water is hot. The fumes do not allow any vegetation to grow around the lake. We all ended up with a bad bout of coughing!

Resting midway on the way back from the white crater.

At a typical Indonesian restaurant built on stilts on water. The restaurant was called - 'Sindang Reret!'

Sundanese food - with nasi putih (rice) in basket and Guramee goreng (fried fish)!

Close up of the Guramee fish. Incidentally - Pa was totally put off by the site of the fish!!

Osang kentan... a leafy vegetable preparation stir fried beside the table. A pity the photograph did not capture the stewards traditional head-dress.

At The Spa Resort in Bandung - focus being on the greenery outside! The resort is surrounded by hills.
